Replacement HMI2.0 with HMI2.5
for Android Auto and CarPlay
opel insignia 2014-2015
The 2014 and 2015 Opel Insignia models uses multimedia systems that, despite GM’s announcements, never received an update to provide Android Auto and CarPlay functionality. This was explained by the insufficient efficiency of the multimedia module used in these years. I am talking about the HMI module version 2.0. From 2016, this module was replaced by more efficient version of HMI2.5 with more computing power and already factory-adapted to Android Auto and CarPlay. Unfortunately, owners of cars equipped with HMI2.0 never received from GM a proposal to modernize their equipment.
The solution is to modernize the multimedia car system on your own. For Android Auto and CarPlay functionality, it is necessary to replace two modules: HMI and radio. The HMI module is located behind the keypad of the air conditioning panel, the radio module is behind the passenger compartment. Additionally, if you plan to use iPhone and CarPlay, and you have a USB module with an SD card in the armrest (MY2014 has 2xUSB/AUX/SD), it is necessary to replace it with a version with one USB port and AUX socket. When using Android based smartphones, no USB module replacement is needed.
The modernization will ensure greater comfort of multimedia operation, including:
Android Auto
Apple CarPlay
improved navigation software, including entering the destination address in separate fields
use of Android Auto and CarPlay applications (Googe Maps, Waze, Sygic (beta), Tom Tom (beta), …)
displaying SMS messages on the screen (additional function for MY2014)
voice reading of SMSs (additional function for MY2014)
improved navigation with the option of 3D buildings in the centers of large cities
current latest Opel/Vauxhall maps in navigation
DAB + digital radio (optional)
more functions available on the radio and navigation screen
much faster operation of the entire system
